I’m Brian Miller. I’m sober and I’m a writer.
Sobriety is the most important thing in my life, not because it defines me, but because it clarified everything else. I stopped drinking on May 16, 2022. What followed wasn’t a dramatic transformation or a public redemption arc. It was quieter than that. Harder in some ways. More honest. Sobriety didn’t fix my life overnight, but it gave me the ability to see it clearly and take responsibility for what came next.
That experience became the foundation for my book, The View from a Windowless Basement. The book is written for people who knew something had to change but never quite fit inside traditional recovery narratives. It’s for those who didn’t hit a cinematic rock bottom, tried to do things the “right” way, and still felt lost. The title is intentional. Recovery doesn’t always begin with clarity or hope. Sometimes it begins in dark, uncomfortable places where progress is slow and unseen.
Alongside my sobriety journey, I founded Seir Hill, a premium non-alcoholic spirits brand. What started as a personal search for better alcohol-free options grew into a nationally recognized brand. Seir Hill was eventually acquired by Better Rhodes, where I am now a partner. My work there continues to focus on helping people rethink their relationship with alcohol and discover alternatives that support clarity rather than compromise it.
Before sobriety and non-alcoholic spirits became central to my work, I spent decades in the creative industry. I was the co-founder of a digital agency, served as a creative director, and authored two books published by Simon & Schuster that were used in classrooms and studios across the country. That chapter of my life shaped how I think about systems, storytelling, and building things that last, but it no longer defines my direction.
Today, my work sits at the intersection of sobriety, entrepreneurship, and writing. Through The View from a Windowless Basement, my newsletter None for Me, and my role at Better Rhodes, I focus on offering perspective for people who want to live alcohol-free without slogans, scripts, or performative optimism.
I’m also a husband, a father of two daughters, and someone who believes that the most meaningful change usually happens quietly, over time, and without applause.
If you’re here because you’re questioning your relationship with alcohol, trying to stay sober, or simply looking for a different way forward, you’re in the right place.
